Why install a window in the bathroom

The idea to install a window in the bathroom is unlikely to arise from those who at one time lived in “Khrushchev” with an incomprehensible window opening from the bathroom to the kitchen.  But living in a modern multi-storey building or in your own cottage, where the bathroom has one or two external walls, the  window becomes quite rational and interesting solution.

What are the benefits?

• A bathroom window is a natural way to ventilate a room. A room in which moisture is constantly present should be regularly ventilated. Even standard exhaust ventilation is not enough.
• The sun’s rays are much brighter than any artificial lighting, while saving on electricity will become noticeable – most people spend a lot of time in the bathroom every day.
• New free space. As a rule, there is always a window sill under the window opening, on whichyou can put bath accessories or indoor plants.
• A wall with a window opening visually expands the area of the room, makes it more interesting and attractive – individual interior items look much more profitable in natural light.

Shape & Location

The window for the bathroom can be non-standard  and should have a shape that is in harmony with the interior and corresponds to the architecture of the house. For classic interiors and country music, a standard rectangular frame is suitable.  The oriental style goes well with vaulted windows with Kommerling or Rehau profiles, the Gothic style with round frames, and  the Art Nouveau style with arched window openings. Usually the window is located 40-60 cm above the upper edge of the bath. This is enough for sunlight to penetrate into the room in sufficient quantities.

How to get rid of condensation?

Any window to the bathroom, regardless of the  number of chambers in the double-glazed window, will have condensation on the inside after taking a shower or hot bath. But you can still reduce the amount of condensate or get rid of it:

• Removal of the window a few centimeters beyond the outer perimeter of the wall. Since part of the glass will be located outside, warm steam will rise to the ceiling, bypassing a kind of “pocket”.
• Complex ventilation system. This method has a downside – the efficiency of heating the room decreases.
• Blowing glass. The principle of airflow is the same as in cars. But the cost of implementing this idea is too high, so this method is rarely used.

It is better to place the window away from heat sources, if the area of the room allows. Regular airing after taking a bath or shower will also help.
